Collections of art ranging from ancient textiles to modern sculpture, created in cultures as widespread as South American native cultures to Asian communities, are displayed at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. It holds tens of thousands of pieces, including paintings, photographs, functional art objects and religious items, illuminating various cultures past and present through their art. Free tours of special collections temporarily on display are available to the public, and visitors can also enhance the visual arts experience through the museum's special lectures, concerts, films and classes. The museum is at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design (MCAD) in the Phillips neighborhood, south of downtown.
